Regenerative Medicine for the Rehabilitation Specialist

AR3T is developing a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) that provides rehabilitation scientists and clinicians with foundational knowledge in regenerative medicine.

Online learning is a contemporary instructional tool that facilitates lifelong education, and online lectures represent a powerful engine for providing inexpensive, first-hand exposure to a broad array of topics. With this in mind, we have designed an online educational program that is intended to help learners gain a foundational understanding in the vocabulary, approaches, and latest advancements in regenerative medicine.

The ‚ÄúRegenerative Medicine for the Rehabilitation Specialist‚ÄĚ Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) begins with a foundational overview of regenerative medicine and rehabilitation science, an intersection of fields increasingly known as 'Regenerative Rehabilitation'. The course then expands to describe cutting-edge innovations across multiple organ systems, including musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiovascular. Over a series of six lectures, subject matter experts offer an assessment of the current state-of-the-science, as well as the potential for regenerative medicine to impact clinical practice in the next 5-15 years. Emphasis is given to principles and approaches relating to mechanobiology (i.e. the way physical forces drive cellular responses), and how such approaches may be used to direct stem cell behavior and functional tissue restoration after injury or disease. This course should be accessible to anyone with a background in the biological sciences and a basic understanding of cell biology.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to describe the potential impact of regenerative medicine technologies on rehabilitation practice, while balancing enthusiasm with a realistic perspective of the pace at which we may be able to satisfy the safety and efficacy demands of these technologies.
